The Ohio Outback Fishing Trail

 

Muskingum River Parkway

  

All three species of black bass (largemouth, smallmouth and spotted), saugeye and various species of catfish are taken from the river.

Bass are also found in several tributaries.  Fishing is permitted from boats and at each of the lock sites; however, fishing is prohibited from the lock walls.


Blue Rock State Park

 

Bass, catfish and bluegill provide sport for the fisherman in Cutler Lake. Hunting, though not permitted in the park, is permitted in season in the surrounding state forest. A valid Ohio fishing and/or hunting license is required.


 Aep ReCreation Land

Located in the northern Morgan County is one of the area's most important recreational assets, a 30,000 acre reclamation region known as ReCreation Land. The land is owned and operated by the American Electric Power Company and features natural hardwood stands, numerous lakes and ponds and nearly 380 campsites -- all available for public use at no charge. Hooked on Fishing - May 16

 

Pack up the kids and fishing gear and head to an area lake to reel in some fun at an upcoming Youth Fishing Derby.

Area organizations are inviting local kids to fish for free Saturday, May 16th. The fishing derby runs from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Hook Lake on State Route 83 in Morgan County.

Age Categories are:

5 & Under
6-9
10-13
14-18

Adults must be on hand to assist the children. The children will be the only ones fishing though.

Burr Oak State Park 

 

Located on the western side of Morgan County, just 15 miles southwest of McConnelsville, is Burr Oak State Park. The park surrounds a seven mile lake with a 10 HP motor limit. Visitors can stay at the lodge or in cabins while enjoying swimming, hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, picnicking, camping, golfing, and horseback riding. Wolf Creek Wildlife Area

This 3,764-acre wildlife area is nine miles southwest of McConnelsville and 11 miles northeast of Glouster along State Route 78. The scenic rolling hills are dissected by Wolf Creek and several of its tributaries. Brushlands occupy approximately 15 percent of the area, openland 18 percent, and woodlands 66 percent, with wetlands and area ponds occupying less than one percent of the area.
